Alfa Mega - The New South
« am: 18 Januar 2005, 21:54:43 »

Zitat
AlfaMega, definitely has a story to tell. He first started rapping at the age of 11 however; his upbringing on the streets of the Notorious Techwood Projects in Atlanta, GA had a different plan for his life. AlfaMega quickly found himself gravitating toward the fast life and before he knew it he was kicked out of school and in trouble with the law.

Although his childhood years found him everywhere from the juvenile system, foster homes and training schools, he quickly learned to survive and excel in the school of hard knocks, mastering the art of sex, drugs and crime. After being convicted of possession of a handgun, AlfaMega was sentenced to 7 years and 8 months in federal prison. The violence and street mentality that had become such an integral part of AlfaMega's life throughout childhood followed him behind prison walls and helped him survive. His decision to "be the predator and not the prey" led him from USP Atlanta, USP Beaumont (TX), USP Lompac (CA), FCI Phoenix (AZ), FCI Tucson (AZ), where he was the cause of a two-week prison lockdown, USP Lewisburg (PA) and USP Allenwood (PA), from which he was released.

Despite the turmoil, AlfaMega used his time in prison and mostly solitary confinement to concentrate on one of the few things that made him happy: music. It was here that he began seriously focusing on his rhymes, writing lyrics and battling on the prison yards. More often than not, his subject of choice was life. His ability to translate the frustrations and disappointments, regrets and experiences of his tumultuous existence onto paper served as an outlet during such an unstable period. And although there were no regrets, it provided a hope that maybe one day he could be forgiven for the impact his choices had on those he held dearly.

On February 8, 2002, AlfaMega was released from prison after spending "7 years, 4 days, 5 hours, 32 minutes, and 16 long muthaf-ing seconds" and placed onto the foreign streets of Philadelphia. However, his outlook, this time, was much different and instead of returning to his life of violence on the streets of Atlanta he remained in Philadelphia in pursuit of a record deal and hopefully, a better life.

In Philadelphia, AlfaMega met up with Rocafella Records recording artists Beanie Siegel and decided to put his skills to the test. The result, after a grueling 2 hour lyric-for-lyric rhyme contest, was a contract with Philadelphia Production Company, Versatile Music. Zellars shed his childhood moniker and adopted the name AlfaMega. In other words, "the beginning and the end of the rap game."

His lyrics foster within a listener the most heartfelt streetwise and hardcore music in the game. He describes himself as a realist and while there is never an intention to glorify a life of murder and mayhem, it's a story that needs to be told nonetheless. After all, it is life and it doesn't always paint the prettiest picture.
